The first 5 weeks is all about playing with the clay and making fabulous creations on the wheel. This class is for all levels, for beginners who wish to learn from a very passionate pottery teacher, with over 25 years experience, the fundamental skills required to prepare the clay and throw a pot on the wheel and hand building techniques or if you are experienced and need to come and play with the clay on the wheel or hand build. Get to know your tools and the OHS rules. Quick tour to know how the studio runs, setting up, tools needed for the wheel. how to knead your clay, followed by a detailed broken down demonstration by me on the wheel. One of the most challenging aspects of learning the wheel is that you have to learn all of it in one go and it's a lot to remember. The only way to get better is to repeat and repeat and......... you get the picture. And that's what we do for the rest of the term, including turning/trimming your vessel, different surface treatments to decorate your fabulous creations and glazing. All clay, glazes and firings are included in the cost and all firings are done in the studio. We only work with Stoneware clay and huge selection of Stoneware glazes from Mayco and Walkers to choose from and this means it can go in a dishwasher, microwave and oven, as it is fired to 1285 degrees.
