As much as I love the wheel, I find hand building, creating patterns and under glazing one of the most therapeutic exercises in ceramics, and it's soooooo easy. Come and be pleasantly surprised by what you make and forget about any troubles for a couple of hour. Quick tour to know how the studio runs, setting up, and tools needed for handbuilding. The beautiful thing about handbuilding is it's a lot easier to learn than the wheel, and you can master the techniques pretty quickly with guidance from me. What we will work on is how to make the perfect slab of clay by hand, starting small and working our way up to big ones. So many different directions you can go. Plates, platters, bowls, spoon rests, incense holders. We can also cover pinch pots, spoons, cheese knives (for soft cheese), pate spatula's, or join the pinch pots together and make vases or salt pigs. It is 3 weeks of making and we glass in the last class All clay, glazes and firings are included in the cost and all firings are done in the studio. We only work with Stoneware clay and huge selection of Stoneware glazes from Mayco including some of the new ones and Walkers to choose from and this means it can go in a dishwasher, microwave and oven, as it is fired to 1285 degrees.
