One of the first things you learn in Hand building Pottery is how to slap out and roll a slab of clay, From this we then make a plate, impress our pattern and then decorate our plate by painting it with underglaze. It really is very easy to do. And so exciting when you take your plate home and use it. Afew things have to happen before it's ready for it's new home. The pot needs to dry out completely and is then given it's first firing. I then need to apply clear glaze and it goes back in the kiln for the second firing. So it can take anywhere upto 4 weeks to be ready. All clay glazes and firing and functional and food safe. It can go in the dishwasher, microwave, and the oven, just not allowed on a direct flame.
